Wael Al Awar founded waiwai (formerly known as ibda design) in 2009. Wael has a multi-disciplinary approach to design, always looking to challenge the conventional processes. His projects layer his individual design sensibilities into an architecture of natural light, time, structure and landscape. By aligning with natural phenomena, the spaces that emerge are site-specific provocations that encourage unexpected experiences.
Abstract:
Humanity is threatened by a climate crisis, amidst a widening political and economic divide.
The construction industry contributes to this crisis globally by using unsustainable material. Materials also move in every direction of the world in mass production to satisfy our thirst for newness.
The new “new” must explore the localness to help in restoring the environmental imbalances and as importantly preserving our cultural identities.
Wael Al Awar will also be presenting the key design principles behind his works.
