Dean of the Jamal Abed Faculty of Architecture at Azm University, Lebanon, starting Sept. 1, 2022.
Dean and founder of the Faculty of Architecture and Design at City University, Lebanon (2003-2022) where he developed, from scratch, its constituent programs and curricula of Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Furniture Design, Photography and Studio Arts.
Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at City University, Lebanon (2021-22).
Consultant to AUB, the American University of Beirut, for curriculum development and Quality Assurance for the Department of Graphic Design in Fahd Bin Sultan University, Tabuk, KSA (2009), also consultant to AUB for curriculum development for the Department of Architecture in Dhofar University, Oman (2006).
Full time professor and lecturer at the American University of Beirut, at the Department of Architecture and Design and at the Department of Landscape and Eco-management (1990-2003); where he was involved in the preparation, development and offering of many theory, studio, professional and technical courses. He also established the Entrance Aptitude Test and was involved in the development of the architecture program of the American University of Sharjah (AUS).
His research interests include pre-modern residential architecture in Tripoli, Lebanon, the use of geometric strategies and symmetry structures in the analysis of ornamental patterns in the Islamic culture, and the role of the experimental architectural studio in architectural education.
Participated in a number of national and international conferences and workshops revolving around quality assurance and program accreditation especially in Engineering and Architecture. He also participated as a jury member in a number of national architecture competitions and student competitions.
His FYP advisees were awarded first prizes for four consecutive years (2011-14) in “The Annual Competition of Architecture Graduation Projects for Universities of North Lebanon”. He was also awarded in 1986 the ‘King Fahd Award for Excellence of Design in Islamic Architecture’ (international competition), for design/rehabilitation of the old fishing bay of Tripoli-Mina, Lebanon.
Granted the Master of Science in Architecture Studies degree from MIT, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in 1989 and the Bachelor of Architecture from AUB, the American University of Beirut, in 1986.
Worked in different architectural offices in the USA, Bosnia, Beirut, London and Athens and prepared design proposals for a number of residential and public projects including a proposal for the development of the Al-Mina waterfront, Lebanon, and the design of a new Faculty of Architecture and Design at City University.
Member of the scientific committee at the Order of Engineers and Architects, Tripoli, Lebanon (2015 -2017).
